March 28 - R & R in Hoi An

Our rest time in Hoi An brought with it the opportunity to do a couple of the "typical" tourist stops. Here we arrived at the Silk factory just in time for the feeding of the silk worms. The whole process was fascinating but right after this picture they pointed out to me that cameras were not allowed so I was unable to bring you more images to share.

We also watched artisans carving items that we would have expected were now done by machine.

Again I thought of how fast a C & C machine would cut out this same item. But knowing that a local artisan had put hours of work into it made it just that much more special. These people take great pride in their work.

I share this picture because of the contrast. There we have their carefully hand crafted lanterns hung side by side with the helmets they wear to ride their motor bikes home at night.

After a number of days on strictly Vietnamese food, many of us flocked to the local Hoi An restaurant named "Good Morning Vietnam"...it is an Italian restaurant that specializes in American style Pizza. "Yum"
